day of decision

they say california is "so progressive". the capital of free love. home of all those hippies, peddling their quests for universal happiness. champions of equality. well, today...that california is no more.

today, the ca supreme court announced their decision to uphold PROP H8. thus beginning our dangerous descent down that slippery, slippery slope. the notion that we are all "equal" is now nothing more than a myth. apparently, we are NOT all equal. not everyone deserves to share in the joy of marriage, not everyone deserves to be happy.

way to go, california. you broke my heart.

here's keith olbermann's moving "special comment" on PROP H8:

Don't H8TE, Particp8!

The Rally Against H8te, organized by JointheImpact.com, took place nation-wide on Saturday, November 15. Opponents of Prop8 showed up in the masses to protest prop8 on the front steps of city halls throughout the country. Some fought for equality, some fought for love...all were there to fight H8TE!

Also, BIG NEWS: Yesterday, the California Supreme Court agreed to review the constitutionality of Prop8. Several lawsuits challenging this proposition, which narrowly passed with a majority of 52%, have been filed and an expedited briefing has been scheduled.

the fight continues....

Election night was an emotional one. Obama, POTUS-elect, represents the realization of this once-again-great nation's potential for positive change. And while my heart was, no doubt, elated by Obama's election, the outcome of prop8 still weighed heavily on my mind. In a state that was supposed to be so progressive, so free-thinking, in a country that had just, in a landslide, elected Obama as president, Prop8 passed in California. 52% of California voters had the audacity to strip the civil rights away from their neighbors...so they could sleep a little easier. An entire California demographic reduced to second-rate citizens because 2% (that's comparable to the population of Bakersfield) voted yes.

Grandma: If you live in California, you do, sweetie.

We read fairytales to children, teaching them that EVERYONE deserves to fall in love, live happily ever after. Prop8 changes that, quickly turning fairytales into a farce. Prop8 says - Sure, everyone deserves a fairytale ending...unless your gay that is, then your shit outta luck - but at least everyone else gets to live happily ever after!

So for the first time in a long time...I am proud to be an American, so happy to call Obama my president (elect), but embarassed to be a Californian.

The fight to overturn Prop8 continues...

a slipperly slope

so check this out:
A prop8 excecutive committee sent a letter to a San Diego business leader (who was against prop8) requesting, not only funding, but the revocation of his "support for equality" as well.

Click HERE to read the letter...the audacity and delusion of the prop8 proponents is just incredible.

it's a dangerously slippery slope and passing prop8 would be like lubing it up for the easier abolishment of other civil rights.

we have to defeat prop8. we just have to.

:::NO on PROP 8:::

PROP 8:::FACT vs. FICTION

FICTION: Prop 8 doesn’t discriminate against gays

FACT:
Prop 8 eliminates the rights for same-sex couples to marry. It would deny equal protections and write discrimination against one group of people—lesbian and gay people—into our state constitution.

FICTION: Teaching children about same-sex marriage will happen unless we pass Prop 8.

FACT: Not one word in Prop 8 mentions education, and no child can be forced, against the will of their parents, to be taught anything about health and family issues at school. California law prohibits it, and the Yes on 8 campaign knows they are lying.

FICTION: Churches could lose their tax-exemption status.

FACT: Nothing in Prop 8 would force churches to do anything. In fact, the court decision regarding marriage specifically says “no religion will be required to change its religious policies or practices with regard to same-sex couples, and no religious officiant will be required to solemnize a marriage in contravention of his or her religious beliefs.”

EDUCATE yourself. Understand the TRUTH. VOTE NO on H8TE.

EVERYONE deserves a HAPPILY EVER AFTER...
